Whether you’re looking to enhance your curves, create a more balanced silhouette, or simply feel more comfortable in your own skin, our expertise in surgical body contouring techniques can help you take the next step toward loving the way you look.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that uses suction and a hollow, metal tube (cannula) to remove unwanted fat cells from the body. This is a powerful technique that can be performed through small access incisions. Commonly treated areas include the abdomen, torso/flanks, back, chest, neck, upper arms, and thighs.

Various technologies exist, including power-assisted liposuction (which uses mechanical movement of the cannula) and ultrasound-assisted liposuction (which uses heat energy to facilitate the process), but the principle is the same – deeper fat is removed and the remaining tissue is sculpted into a more contoured, proportional shape.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

Men and women of many ages are looking to permanently eliminate persistent fat deposits that have not decreased with diet and exercise, and these patients may be good candidates for liposuction. Our surgeons can determine if liposuction is the optimal treatment approach for you during your consultation.

When you meet Dr. Austin Remington or Dr. Brad Remington for your consultation, your medical history will be reviewed, and the proposed treatment sites will be examined. Your skin quality will also be evaluated to ensure it will contract to fit your trimmer contours after liposuction. Seeing the quality of the tissue and referencing years of experience will allow our surgeon to give you an accurate assessment about whether this procedure is right for you.

Liposuction is not a suitable option for patients who are overweight. Instead, candidates should be at a stable, healthy weight and looking to treat localized areas of fat accumulation rather than seeking a weight loss solution.

Liposuction Surgery Details

Liposuction can be performed under different forms of anesthesia, including local anesthesia, sedation, and general anesthesia. The treatment areas are first injected with tumescent (also known as “wetting”) solution, which provides local anesthesia and epinephrine to minimize bleeding/bruising.

Small access incisions (usually about two per site) are made to be as hidden as possible. The cannula is then introduced to extract the deep fat. The surgeon continually assesses the thickness of the tissue for symmetry and to prevent over-resection.

Once the fat removal process is complete, a single, absorbable suture is used to close each access site. The incision site will be dressed, and a compression garment will be placed around the treatment area.

Liposuction Recovery

Wearing compression garments as advised is the most critical part of liposuction recovery. This will be recommended for at least several weeks. The purpose is to reduce swelling and promote skin contraction.

Patients usually report being uncomfortable and bruised for one to two weeks after surgery. While the access sites are small, the surgical site area can be large. Regardless, most patients are comfortable during their recovery and need only a minimal amount of prescription pain medication.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

Liposuction pricing varies based on treatment area complexity, the number of areas being addressed, and the specific technique(s) utilized. Additional factors that impact cost include total surgery time, anesthesia requirements, and the extent of fat removal. The cost of your customized liposuction procedure will be reviewed with you during your consultation.

Recovery and Results

Patients usually report being sore and bruised for one to two weeks after surgery. While the access sites can be small, the surgical site area can be large. Regardless, most patients are comfortable and need a minimal amount of prescription pain medication. Wearing compression is the most critical part of the recovery, and this may be recommended for four weeks, perhaps even longer. The purpose is to reduce swelling and promote skin contraction. Liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in the treated areas, but it is still possible to gain weight if a healthy lifestyle is not maintained.
